CMOS battery going bad

I have a Sotec 820P laptop and it started acting strange last night. It wouldn't boot and the battery light came on ( with the external power plugged in ) but finally booted and worked normally. So tonight the same thing. I called tech support and since they have changed mfgrs( nnow Avertec ), all he could tell, which I kinda figured myself ( since the clock was screwed up also ) that the CMOS battery was failing and I needed to replace it. He said it was soldered into the mother board but didn't have the configuration for my computer. Would anyone venture a guess as the where the battery might be hiding ???? Thanks for any replies.

if i remember correctly, you bought this laptop <1 yr ago. a dead battery should be covered by the warranty.

if it is not and you want to do it youself, you'll need to completely dissemble it to get at the system board. no idea where the battery is, but it should be clear where it is once you have it taken apart.

DONT TAKE YOUR LAPTOP APART! Youll regret it later. If you screw one TINY thing up your laptop if f*cked... take it to a repair shop. it is easier..

Thanks for the warning, but first thing I did when I bought it was to pull the keyboard and add some RAM. I've worked on electronic equipmenr for years, just wanted to know which panel the battery was hiding under.

PJohn The system battery is OK. It's the CMOS battery causing the problem
