| fast decision - getting a labtop
I'll be setting off to uni soon and I need some advice in buying labtop. There are currently 3 choices :
1. Fujitsu S6130
2. NEC Versa E6000 170DR
3. Toshiba M2V
I like the Fujitsu because it's light (1.8kg). The NEC is kinda heavy (2.8kg) but the features are good. Toshiba has nice video card though.
Quick review:
Fujitsu S6130 :
P-M 1.4 GHz
512 mb ram
64 build in video card
build in combo drive
NEC :
P-M 1.7 GHz
256 mb ram (would upgrade it if i were to get this)
128 ati radeon 9100 vedeo card
build in dvd-multi drive
toshiba :
almost the same as fujitsu, but with a dedicated 64mb ati radeon video card
price-wise they're almost the same.
guys I need to make the decision in 2 days so please help me. Thanks |

I'm using it in Uni. I'm studying engineering course so I'll need it to run a lot of engineering softwares such as cad program, c language, programing software. I'm not a gamer but I do enjoy watching movies and anime. Also I enjoy music a lot. |

So you can pretty much skip the graphics card but that's it. You need a lot of RAM, I say 1GB, a realitively large hard drive (maybe a 60GB), and the highest-resolution screen you can find.
I think you should go buy a nice, heavy, expensive Dell Inspiron. PM me if you want me to set up a config for you.

These 3 are my main choices but yeah I'll accept any other suggestions.
Both the fujitsu and toshiba comes with a 40gb HD and the ram is expandable to 2 gb.
NEC however comes witha 60 gb HD but the ram can only expand to 1 gb.
My budget is around 1500-1800 USD.
by the way I'm from this very small country called Malaysia. |

Right now I'm working on finding a non-sucky Dell Inspiron config that won't be more expensive than $1800.
Do you care about battery life? |

Do you care about wireless?
Floppy drive?
Second battery?
Extremely high resolution screen?
Etc |

I would prefer the batt to last at least 4.5 hours. built in floppy and second batt is not really necessary. but i would prefer good and high resolution. prefer more usb ports.
usb ports no. :
fujitsu :2
toshiba :3
nec :4 |

Actualy, if hes going to be running engineering software on it then you cant just ignore the graphics.... Most CAD programs require cards that are built for Open GL 2.0 (aka Workstation cards: Nvidia Quadro series)
To be perfectly honest I dont really know of any laptop that can run engineering programs well, tahts why the have desktops labs on campus.....
This is moreso what you would need to do any serious engineering work... but the price tags are absurd http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...555&l=en&s=biz
