laptop cooling again...

Greetings to all, i just wanted to ask a few questions about laptop cooling. I've checked the back threads, but i can't seem to find out how to check my cpu temps? I can't find anything obvious in the bios that allows me to do so.

I'm positive its a cooling problem, as the length of time i can play a game depends on how cool the environment is at the time (anywhere from 5-20mins playing time). i already have a cooling pad (cyber cooler = 30CFM via 3 fans at 3000rpm usb powered) which is as about as much use as a picture of some icecubes stuck under the damn thing!

My lappy's fan makes one hell of a noise when its wound up, not in a damaging sense, but sounds like a jet engine! The vent is relativey clean and i still have a 3 year warrenty on it.

Any ideas would be appreciated, as 5 mins of gaming is beginning to grate somewhat!!

My specs:
Clevo 400E (www.clevo.com)
win XP
P-4 3.06Ghz with hyperthreading (enabled)
1024MB ram
ATI mobility radeon 9000 64mb
80gb HHD
DVD/CD-WR

All drivers updated (except radeon - clevo slow to bring out their own)

i don't think you have many options unfortunately. if you crack open the laptop and try installing a different hs/fan, you'll void the manufacturer's warranty. that's even assuming you can find a 3rd party hs/f that will fit in the form factor.

the fact of the matter is the p4 3ghz you have in there is an extremely hot cpu and it sounds like the fan is working properly already.

i would take the laptop back to the store. explain to them how it crashes and ask that they a cpu burn-in test to load the processor at 100% and see if it is stable.

Sounds like a good idea, only probs would be that i bought on the web, making the RMA forms a bit of a pain to fill out. It sounds as though i don't have too many options left tho!!

Just out of interest how can i find out my cpu temps (ie. perhaps so i can phone them instead with some info)??
