| S Video Cable
I have a question. I have a box from my cable company that has a spot on it labled S Video Cable but yet it doesn't have the connector to plug it in. It's like they took it out or something. Can I just buy a connector with the S Video Cable and hook it up or is this something the cable company would have to do? Thanks. |

Hi well after going over this thread for the last few days i seem to be no nearer the end! I have a RCA connection on my laptop philips freevents x56 which i have a converter to an s-video attachment. I connect the cables together put it in the side of my television to the s-video connection but i dont get a picture. I know the s-video cable works as i hooked the bt vision box up with it to the same connections and it worked fine. So i guess its something im not doin right with the laptop. The television just says no signal! i go to the graphics media icon in the bottom right and choose output device and choose monitor but it doesnt do anything?
Really need your help guys and girls
most appreciated
David

Hi David
What your are looking to do is switch on your external video output - the best way to do this is right click anywhere on your desktop and select 'properties' - the wording varies depending on whether you're XP or Vista +/- your graphics card type. Then find say 'settings' then 'advanced' then 'monitors', and activate your RCA output.
A can't explain more till we know your OS (vista /XP etc and your TV make and model)
Happy new year! |

| Solution to your connection problem
The use of a VGA connection with component connections will not work as you have found out. What you need is a VGA to RCA. (Red, White, Yellow) This type of adapter is available at most electronic parts stores. (Radio Shack, ect. or you call get them at sites such as Ebay. Very easy problem to fix. Cost is $3.00 to $20.00 U.S. Ebay is the cheapest, $3.00 U.S. with free shipping. Quote:

I have got a Cable VGA to Component. (One side VGA Male port other side 3 Male jacks Red Green Blue). I connected VGA side to my laptop and Component side to Component in jacks on my TV. I have done Fn + F5. My Laptop screens goes off but nothing displays on TV.
I am wondering whether VGA to Component will work without any adapter? What would be the solution for me on above configuration.
Thanks everyone in advance. | |

Hi its me again, well i ditched the s video idea and bought a vga to vca cable in the hope that it would work however i got my cable today and tried it out. I matched the colours on the cable ends to the tv ones but still nothin so im beginning to think theres something not quite right here. The laptop definately recognises that another monitor is plugged in a i get the graphics media device come up with the option showing the monitor. I have made sure the refresh rate on both are at 60mhz and both 800X600 (or what ever it is) but the tele still says no signal! its really starting to annoy me now, lol. Any suggestions or things that i may have missed?
Thanks for the help

Hi guys!
I've found this thread like most, while searching for reasons as to why my s-video connection no longer works. I haven't been able to find anything in previous posts that seem to help with my problem. (Pardon me if my solution is repeated in an earlier post, i missed it, sorry!)
I have a HP Pavilion tx1000 with NVIDEA GeForce Go 6150 video card. I connect the s-video cable (it's a 4-pin cable into a 7-pin connection, lemme know if that could be a problem) to the computer then to the adapter, then to the yellow video RCA jack and then to the TV (the tv changes, Samsung, Magnavox, etc) and I can extend my desktop to the television. Until today when I did the same thing I always do and nothing. It acts as if there is no display and I cannot figure for the life of me what has changed.
I've used different video jacks and I've tested the s-video cable my using it to connect my DVD player and it all works. So something has changed on my laptop and I don't know what it is. Please help!
Also, my OS is Vista and I have recently updated the NVIDIA drivers.
You can either reply on here or email me at moran.146@osu.edu
