Check to verify voltage into the inverter from the mainboard, If none present start back tracing . You may find a surface mount fuse, resistor or, other opened . Should be salvageable if its just a backlight issue. I doubt the screen is the problem unless fluid contacted to CCFL when it was on. Dont try to verify output voltage from the inverter, this can be up to 1600 V , (Hot one). Backlights can be changed with some time and patience. I do them regularly..
