Help finding a laptop for $600.

My brother is wanting to buy a laptop because he is going to sell all of his stuff and travel the world as he is an actor looking for scouts. Below is an email of what he wants to do with the laptop.

I need something with at least 800 mhz that can play dvds, burn cds, plays
most games made before 2002, with ethernet, and preferably s-video out.
that's it. i'm not interested in gaming on it too much, i just need a
glorified portable dvd player/stereo. that i can use to surf the net. I can
spend 600 bucks. I definitely want a used laptop, either an ibm thinkpad, or
a fujitsu. That's about all i can write now. I have to go do a show. I'll
    talk to ya' later
As you can see, his budget is $600. He wants to play dvd movied, burn cds, play games made before 2002. ethernet. and s-video out to hook it up to a tv. And even though he didn't mention it, i KNOW he will need wireless capabilities sooner or later.

He is willing to get a used laptop, and yes ebay is an option!

Don't worry about having an operating system or any preloaded software as I will be buying it for him, installing all of the necessary software, and then mailing it to him.

Now lets see what you all can find!

    Thanks,
    -Biz

might check out one of the fully loaded compaq armada m700's at ebay

poor gaming ability though, but easily had for 400.

also, thinkpad a30, a31, and t30 are all good series for what he's looking for.

Is it possible to find a laptop with at least a 40gb? 20gb seems to small.

    (reserve not met).
If they're trying to buy it now for 1700 then chances are the reserve is pretty high.
The first one you posted still has 3 days left.. and a laptop liek that will go alot higher on ebay.

I sold an inspiron 5000 with a broken LCD screen (shattered basically) with 128mb of ram and win98se for like 350 + shipping.... so something like that I would be surprised if it hit 700-800

Its pretty hard to get a decent laptop under 800-1000, but keep looking =).

for 600$ you can buy a lot more than just 800 MHz! I am thinking about selling mine for about $500 (not now though) and it has
    Celeron 2.0 GHz
    40 GB HDD
64 MB Intel Extreme Graphics (No T&L, crap! :<)
    512 MB of RAM
Windows XP (of course) but anyways...not now though

    edit:
Bought this for 899$ about a year and a half ago

OH really! Well I might sell it for more than I payed...how does $901 sound...humm...j/k
But I sold a lappy to my friend for 450$ (Probably 1.533197 or so years ago, lol) and there was one lappy on the AOL selling site that had 300 mhz less than mine and half the ram for about 450$, but as long as I can pay for half of the laptop I want, my parents will pay for the rest!
