Download the service manual to see which parts I am talking about. The LED board is the board that contains the power switch and the TPM chip goes on this (optional chip not all NC6000's have this) |

| If I Might Add... Compaq NC6000
Needless to say, here is yet another person with the same problem - BIOS is locked out by an Admin Pwd and the user does not know what it is.
Removing the HD does not solve this problem, as I know many of you have already stated.
I have read where you have talked about changing something on the MB. Can someone please clarify that for me? Do I have to remove the entire bottom to get to this part? Will it be an obvious looking part?
I'm sooo confused , I really hate dealing with laptops.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks,
RaeTech |

You don't need to change the motherboard, but the . The harddrive will have to be changed if it's locked. You get to the motherboard by removing the keyboard. The part to change is probrably the curcuitboard attached to the motherboard, but first try resetting the bios by unplugging the cmos battery(you'll see it once the keyboard's removed) |

Hi everyone, well i have found this thread most helpfull with my laptop as ive just replaced the hardrive and rebuilt my system. i have one small issue though.
i have downloaded all the latest drivers and have installed them but still have 1 thing hanging out in device manager which i have no idea which driver it requires.
it says other devices. then says base system device. and in properties is says PCI bus 2.device 6. function 2
does anyone know what device this is and what driver i need to install it, when asked to search on internet for driver it comes back saying it cant find one.
thanks in advance. matt |

I have the exact same problem as all of you... I got a password stuck on this laptop..
I ordered a new LED board to see if that will fix the problem, it should be here next week. Where exactly is the TPM chip on the LED board? I've looked everywhere for it and I cant find it.
Does anyone have any other ideas on what I should do about this? |

Vapor Matt,
You mentioned a hardware problem:
<<
it says other devices. then says base system device. and in properties is says PCI bus 2.device 6. function 2>>
I have exactly the same problem. Can anyone advise us both how to sort this?
AND - is there a way of getting this forum to send an e-mail when an answer has been posted to a thread one is following. It took me ages to find my way back to this one! |

vapor matt:
- try booting with a Knoppix Live CD maby it will recognize the hardware you need drivers for in windows.
swk:
- yes it is working withouth a hdd drive and it`s eaven able to boot a bootable CD (XP install / Linux Live CD).
- you might be having another problem , maby hardware one if the laptop isn`t showing anything on the lcd screen.
ddclutch
- the forum will send you an email from time to time saying that new info has been posted on this forum, at least that`s how i'm getting back here from time to time |

| the unknow piece of hardware
it is the Infinion board, pry up the cover with the power switch on it. Just below the the left most hinge, there is a board about 3/8 x 1 inch. one screw on the right. it is basiclly an onboard "SecureID" key fob. had the SB replaced on one of the 6220's here and it was an added bonus. http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...reg_R1002_USEN |
