I use HP compaq nx5000, once I had high cpu usage and searched the problem and unforrutnately I installed some BIOS progrsm that I think has programmed my BIOS. Any time I start up in a black screen it wants to count my RAM and afterall it says that your bois check faild and it resets my conputer date to 1980/04/04 or 2000/04/04
It has become a great problem for me since I easily get viruses, since Antiviruzes are sensetive to time and my computer announces me that my antiviruses are out of date
I think that I should reset my bois, but I want to it by software not opening my laptop.
Any help is highly appreciated. |

You have to updatae your BIOS to the correct version for your laptop - you must go to the HP website - (obviously from another PC), and download the updated BIOS for that model - read the instructions very carefully on how to install it (put it on a boot disk, boot to it, and run the updater) and update the BIOS with the correct file HP has for your model specifically - once you have, you can go into the BIOS and tweak your settings if you want or leave them default and you are on your way...if you think you have a virus it would be best to go into your OS in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING and run housecall from trend micro's website. |

Hi ITguru,
Thanks a lot for your fast reply
I found the appropriate update for my hp and it flashed my ROM. I restarted and wanted to continue my work, after about 4 min the screen became completely blue and warning about some driver etc. a lot of zeros, "Fatal Error: some drives 0X000000 or ..." I don't remember exactly the number!!
Any way it worried me too much, and then after another restart I restored bios default setting and it is working now that I'm writing here!
But I'm really afraid if my computer has real probelm. |

I really don't know what else to do? |

As far as the memory My first guess is that I was counting on the BIOS fix to take care of that...if the problem is the same as it was with the RAM counting up and then reseting I would make sure you have good RAM first - if you have more than 1 module - try pulling one of them and booting and if it is successful you have your answer - if it fails swap the Modules and test again - if you only have 1 mem mod then you have to get a good one to test with - if you have a memory module onboard (meaning you have memory built into the motherboard and then an expansion slot you may need the tech specs on your laptop to be sure)(you could also have an easily accessible expansion and the main mem mod on the mobo where you have to take the laptop apart or at least pull the KB to find it) if it has one onboard and you find that the error persists after the expansion is eliminated your Mobo is likely toast because you cannot repalce the built-in RAM (you could still replace the CMOS battery as a final diag) - you could very well could have 2 issues a bad CMOS battery and a RAM problem but I would get the RAM squared away first - Once you have good RAM you should only see the clock reset but no memory errors if the CMOS battery is bad - hope that helps |

Hi ITguru,
Tnx again
Any way you mean that I HAVE to open my laptop and check the RAM and battery (what I can't do myself and should take to an expert one!).
I'll do and inform you about it. |

| NC6000 Power on shut off issue problem
Did anyone ever find a fix to this? I installed drivers for a usb Bluetooth device when it flipped off on me. This thing is in pieces from me trying to limit what could be wrong. It's 2 months out of warranty too. I'm looking for the chip HP put in to make your computer defective after the warranty expires! So far the only fix I've seen is a new motherboard where the new one could be just as bad. Until I hear otherwise, I have for sale a gig of ram, 40gb drive, great screen, dvd player/cd burner, and a wireless card! Quote:

After several tries, it will boot (the green power on light turns on). At that point, everything is fine and it runs flawlessly.
It has been suggested that this might indicate that the hard drive is marginal, and is not always responding to the initial hardware detection. I'm not sure I believe this, because of the behavior of the power on light. | |

sounds like a power supply issue to me. I do not know if the PS is replaceable separate from the MoBo. If you have swapped RAM to be sure it is not shorting out the board there is little left to test yourself without sending it in to HP or swapping the board yourself. |

| NC6000 Power on shut off issue problem
I removed the ram, harddrive, wireless, battery, then unplugged and put battery back in. Would the power connector be somewhere that connects to both battery and the supply? That i will look into. Sounds like my weekend project! Anyone do this so far? Part numbers? Quote:

So, looks like this thread is moving in the direction of this random no booting issue.
My NC6000 (6 months outside warranty) has just started to do this and it is really annoying. If it boots, then it works like a charm - no problems at all. But if some reason you have to shutdown or restart... Good luck!
Anyway; My problem is exactly as described: Press power-on, fan comes on, HDD spins up a bit, CD spins up a bit, then, BAM! It just powers off and the orange "charging" led comes on.
So far the only other forum I have found relating to this issue is here: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/f...readId=1046903
I would agree with other observations that my fan has been going a bit more than usual over the last while, but it has been a gradual increase in activity and so it is only really with hindsight that I can say this.
This is such an annoying problem. This is my primary machine and I need it daily for work so I can't really afford to take it apart to have a look around. I'm capable of swapping HDDs / RAM etc but it sounds like this isn't the issue. Furthermore becuase it is an intermittent problem I am loathed to take it into the HP guys because (Murphy's Law says) you can gaurantee that when I take it in, it will work fine and they will charge me money to tell me exactly that.
My question: What is a replacement MoBo worth? Seeing as it is outside warranty I will be paying to get it fixed so I'd like to know if anyone out there has an idea what it might be worth.
If the replacement cost is too high I may as well look start looking for a new machine. I mean 4 years isn't a bad run...
Questions? Comments?
