Laptop visual help!

I was wondering if there was a way to connect a laptop to a monitor, and have it like that all the time even during bootup. The reason I ask is because the laptop monitor broke, and I want a way to use the laptop like a desktop, but I cant figure out how to do it. Everytime I try to boot it up, it still goes back to the laptop default monitor. It's an HP Pavilion if that helps any. Thanks!

if its plugged in during bootup it should automatically detect it....but generally theres a BIOS settings for default monitor though.
I'm not so sure you will be able to change the setting though if the screen broke.

Look for a CRT/LCD function button on the laptop
