Problem with Dell connection to video projector

I have a Dell Inspiron 4100 running Windows 2000. When I connect it to my video projector, it will only feed the video to the projector when the laptop is in the blank screen mode. When the image is on the laptop screen, there is no image to the porjector. The projector is an Infocus 870 (I think that's the model). I have downloaded the latest Infocus driver and the latest Radeon Video driver for the laptop. But that hasn't helped.

I need to be able to see the computer screen when making a presentation, since I am looking at the audience and don't want to be looking back over my shoulder at the projector image.

Any suggestions?

Laptops have a key combination you can press to change certain modes for dual screen. It is something like fn (function) F8 or one of the other "f's". Its something you might try.

On some laptops, like mine, you can right click on the desktop and they'll be a "graphics" option (or similar), you can then choose your display settings. Make sure you select "clone" or something like that - this copies the output to the laptop to the projector.

Is the video ati-s3 nvidia or what? If ATI right click desktop go to properties, advanced, go to monitor. Now click the pj that should be showing there (under the main monitor). IT will be red now-click it on, it will be blue tab. Now its active.
