I have 2 computers at home. If I wish to connect them wirelessly, (Wi Fi), mainly for file transferring and internet connection, and also have one of them to connect to a PDA - what hardware will i need and how should they be configured.

for broadband connection you will want a wireless router and each computer that will be connecting through the wireless will need a wireless card.

Look into Dlink or Linksys.

you will also need to choose a standard

Just DONT get the new netgears. They suck. Go for linksys or dlink. Both have worked good for me.

Thanks Pickel, D-Link and Asus models are on my list (Asus includes access point and will work fine with the Asus wi-fi cards installed).

If you go with asus let us know if its good. You'd expect it to be, going by the brand etc. But that can mislead you sometimes. Any model in particular, Ill check some reviews on it.

Hi Xtreeme

I'm targeted on the Asus WL-500G Router mainly since I assembled both computers with Asus MOBOs and their WiFi Cards are also asus. The router includes access point capabilities but i'm not shure as to the advantage...

Seems its a good unit. Just not networking noob friendly. Due to lack of documentation. BUT I can say the same about many routers-its kinda typical unfortunatly. Lets see my Thomson router/modem unit, the netgear I had that was horrid, and linksys though works GREAT, is a little tough if you dont know the networking lingo. Dlink, is pretty easy, but again the manual doesnt cover every aspect. Put it this way, I wouldnt let that part alone deter me, If I were you as there are many guides on the net for setting up these.

There arent many reviews on it, must be a fairly new unit. Id prob get it, since you have all asus the setup should be pretty streight forward. Keeping all the wireless gear same brand does help "sometimes" with making the setup easier.
