Hey all, I'm in the process of buying a new laptop. The one i'm moving from is just too heavy to be practical. I'm at a loss at what could be a good new laptop for me. Here are some of the key points that I would like on it:
Long battery life, 3.5 or higher hours
Light weight. under 5 lbs if I can get it
DVD+- burner
wi fi and ethernet
Good CPU processing power.
Decent vid card. I used to want to use this laptop as a gaming laptop but you realy can't have both lightweight and a gaming machine. I'd like to play games, but those are a last resort now.
Finally cost. I have around 1300 to spend. |

idk..but if I were you..i'd look into one that has 2 batteries..that way when one dies..it switches over to the other and you can replace the dead battery with an extra you have charged (of course..that'd require buying extra batteries). |

that's a great laptop.. don't get me wrong.. but still heavier than I'd like, though that battery life for dvds is just AWSOME! Have you heard anything about the averatec systems? I was looking into their thin and light systems. |

Avertec either bought Sotec or they just changed names . http://www.averatec.com/notebooks/3200series.htm
Check this one out . Only 4.5 lbs and 1" thick |

I would get the Inspiron 700m (4.1 lbs) which comes out to $1,257 with a Pentium M 725, 8x DVD+/-RW burner, 802.11b/g wireless connectivity, and additional 8-cell Lithium Ion Battery. |

I would like to put in a vote for the Averatecs. I purchased a 3200 series for both my boss and CEO of my company and both are very happy with them. I am working with a Averatec 5500 series because i wanted the 15" screen at a good price.
