Dell C600 LCD problem

My laptop was working fine until yesterday when the screen started to break up- colors would distort and go out of focus- in random patterns around the screen.
This morning I turned it on and it loaded XP fine, and after 5 minutes went into the same routine- and then turned white- which I assume is the backlight. I have installed the latest drivers- rebooted, and am getting the same screen distortions, but hasn't gone white yet (30 minutes). Any ideas about what may be going on with the display? I would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Definitely looks like your LCD screen is starting to fail. If it's under warranty get it sent in. If it's not well, you have a few options too:

1) find a replacement LCD for cheap on eBay or someplace like that
2) purchase a replacement screen and have it installed - screens are still around $1000+ last time I checked
3) get a replacement laptop
4) if you can, just plug a monitor into the VGA port and use that instead of the LCD
