Thinkpad's trackpoint won't allow Intellimouse functions

I've tried disabling the trackpoint completely and still the MS Intellimouse's functions won't work. I did install the latest Intellipoint drivers and Device Manager sees it fine... the mouse moves find... I just can't use the scroll or side buttons. I can't even see the Intellimouse property box that sets all of these. Instead, I'm seeing the default WIN2k mouse property box with a trackpoint tab (even when disabled).

Any ideas?

what model thinkpad? you might have to change that in the tp's bios... it SHOULD work by just having it plugged in, but it might still not support it.
