Averatec 3200

I just picked one of these up at sam's club after pricing them for a while. I saw the notebook today for 500! When i asked why it was so low, the sales rep said it was because it was the display model, so knowing the price of it new (around 1000) i picked it up.

Has anyone had any experience with these? Was this a good deal?

Athlon XP-M 2200
60 gb hd
512 ram
built in wireless
dvd rw

Also, do they make like covers for the laptop? like some kind of form fitting cover? thanks

Not sure about the cover... its a good laptop for the money though. A guy accross the hall bought one to use around campus between classes and what not.

I think his was 600 after rebates... so it looks like you got a good deal (as long as it not been used a ton in store).

It was a real pain to get wireless working on it in linux.. but in windows everything is fine as far as I know.

Someone else here had a slightly older averatec and the fan died after 6 months, and burnt out the entire system... so I guess it's somewhat of a gamble. Might actually be worth it to pay 50 dollars or whatever it is to get the extended warranty.
