So, I have a dell c600 I whipped linux (knoppix 3.7 hdd install) onto, and I knew the battery life was short (i thought about 4 hours) but it's more like 2.5 hours tops due to old age. 130 from dell seems awfully pricey for the battery, and every store I find that supplies them are all loooking to be fly by night sites and have subpar ratings at best at reseller ratings.
So I was wondering if maybe some popular site has them stashed in some hidden section of their site, or if there is a recommended store around. Thanks in advance. |

2.5 hours is pretty darn good for a laptop battery... although if it used to be 4 hours that quite a drop. Have you tried draining the battery completely with the computer sitting in the BIOS and then doing a full recharge? http://resellerratings.shopping.com/...00_8000_Series
I also doubt that the Knoppix kernel is going to be compiled for frequency scaling... so its possilbe its just not doing any kind of speed-stepping, thus draining the battery pretty fast.
Batteries are pretty expensive.. but if the battery life is that important to you, it might be worth it to fork out the extra 30 dollars to get it easily from dell.

Well, it's originally stated to last 3-4 hours...today was the second day I've actually used the battery like that, before it just sat asside. I'm positive it was very near if not completely empty before I charged it last night.
And, I'm seeing different, um what II think are capacities (I'm horrible on electrical abbreviations.)
My battery has it listed as 2700mAh, while one site has their basic battery at 3800, and an "extended life" battery at 4460mAh, is this something I need ot watch out for if I don't order from dell, or is it just the capacity like I think.

Battery technology is constantly advancing, so higher capacity batteries that will work in your computer could be available... although sometimes at a price premium As long as the manufacturer says it will work with you laptop, you should be fine. In general you want the highest mAh rating you can afford since mAh means longer runtime. |
