Hi guys
As a fairly knowledgeable computer user. I decided to help a friend with his laptop. He had wanted me to format it and install it back again. So I used the restore software that came with the laptop. The result? Nothing happened after booting. Since the company had a bad name and had went bankrupt there were high possibilities that there was malfunctioning on part of the hard drive. (He had previously used the warranty to change it once). The laptop is one year old.
Anyways, my problem is that I get an error message when I try to use the company CD on the new hard drive. It's a Hitachi Travelstar E7K60 (14r9200) 40 GB Hard Drive. I was thinking that the problem might be the bios. The laptop doesn't have a floppy drive, but I had all his data in an external hard drive (USB). Thank you for your time and patience.

Do you have a Windows XP disk, and if so, is there a Windows sticker on the side or bottom of his Laptop, so you can use his CD-Key? If not send Microsoft and E-Mail, explain the problem, say you have the CD-Key, and they might send you a disk. I really doubt they would, becuase you could be someone pirating XP, but there is a CHANCE. Small one, though ;P. |

It's doesn't exactly give me an error message. When I switch to the second recovery CD the percentage bar doesn't go up. It just freezes. |

My friend doesn't want to spend any more money on his laptop. I am going to try to use the diagnostics disk. |
