| hi, Found a laptop that needs fixin :) HP Pavilion
ZD7000 with 17 inch display and a 3.0 p4
its on ebay, and its at like 400 bucks.
pretty good options on it but the problem that the guy says it has is this.
The laptop stopped working, what it does is all the lights show up when plugged into the power supply. but thats it....
so... was wondering if anyone could point me towards the probable problem of this? before i go biddin on the thing.
Im guessing the motherboard is fried from some accident.
motherboards expensive? appreciate the help guys |

its likely completly proprietory, so finidng a replacement mobo would be difficult / very expensive. Not to mention tearing it apart to replace it is going to be extremely challenging too.
Personally I'd save the money and the headache.
Another likely problem is the power supply system internally is messed up/fried. |

so a motherboard would be extremely hard to find and get fixed :/
I was reading what came up on google, and alot of people are having Power supply problems with these laptops , as in they arent taking in power.
could that possibly be whats causing this? the laptop isnt receiving the necessary power to actually begin to boot up?
If thats not a possibilty, then ill axe this one
and yes i am reading all your posts Hockey gave me the idea that it might be power supply related?
thanks for the welcome

I'm not saying it can't be done... but have you ever taken a laptop apart before?
Not to mention to me it seems like you're gambling quite a bit considering the information provided. Thats alot of money to put forth on something that you may never be able to fix. |

true, never took a laptop apart before, but been building regular desktop computers for years...
it should all be the same except alot smaller .... right ?
im lookin for a laptop after i missed out on those 750 off 1499 deals, that dell had on the i9300's earlier. who woulda those they woulda been used up in less than 45 minutes?
but this one is a fair long shot, and i guess ill drop it and look for something else.

You basically need to see that particular model put together in order to figure out how to take it apart. Most of them are filled with annoying plastic clips and stuff that you cant see. I had my dell inspiron 5000 LCD panel replaced once... it took the tech that looked like he knew what he was doing an hour simply to replace the screen. That wasn't even getting into the gut of the laptop.
Theres definately no real design standards like in ATX desktop cases where everything is exactly the same.

No kidding...wouldn't even try it. For $400, plus another 1/2 ($600 total) these days you can get a new notebook. |
