Compaq modem issues

I am reloading Win98 onto a Compaq Presario 1210 laptop. Everything has gone good except for the internal modem. Win98 does not detect it though it does detect an unknown device. I have COM 1 2 3 available however trying to locate a 98 modem driver is like pulling teeth.

Any ideas?

All I can say is that the Compaq site sux for support! I got the driver at driverguide and will try tonight. drdriver was a waste of time as well. It seems that these drivers are few and far between.

I am having the same problem. I bought a Compaq Armada 1700 second hand. It came with windows xp pro, which was very slow and took up almost all the hard drive, so I formatted C drive and installed windows 98. For some reason it will not detect my modem, it worked fine with xp pro. The big problem is all I know about the modem is that it is a compaq. I even tried installing windows 95(to see if it would detect a modem) but that was a no go.

Did you fix the problem?
