Need help installing memory on Comapq Armada

I ordered a 64MB module for a Compaq Armada 1560DM for a customer. It came in and I picked up the laptop figuring a 5 minute job - not .

I know this sounds really stupid but I can't find an access cover to install the module. I've spent hours surfing the Compaq site and Google looking for any manual and nothing (not surprising).

Does anyone know how to open this laptop? Or a link to somewhere that may show me? The only panel underneath gives me access to the modem but nothing else. I unsrcewed the bottom cover (about 12 screws) but it still won't open. I never force anything but I'm tempted to get out a hammer and chisel .

I've got to firgure this out today as I'm leaving town on Tuesday. Now I remember why I don't work on laptops and Compaq's .

Specs:
Compaq Armada 1560DM
PI 166
32MB SDRAM
4GB HD

As always, thanks much!

Mike

From memory the old compaq laptop I saw had an access hatch in the middle of the rear face, just under where the monitor sits (up high). It is a small screw held cover (I think) which is very thin and it pulls out to reveal the mem socket.

I don't have one anymore, it's gone interstate with a friend, but that's what I remember about the mem upograde.

Hope it helps. Very frustrating

Well, I found this user manual for an Armada 1500 - figure it's similar. It has a section on Mem upgrading - opening the case and all. Maybe the one I recall wasn't a compaq- maybe a dell? .

Anyway, here's the pdf link: ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinfo...s/1500user.pdf

mickwish -

Once again, you come through! Thanks alot!

That was exactly what I needed. The memory was under the keyboard. It took all of about 5 minutes to install. It's up and running now. You just saved me a whole lot of time and frustration.

BTW, I never could get VNC to work on a dial-up but I use it all the time on my LAN (pretty sweet proggie). I wound up buying PC Anywhere - $180USD - ouch!

Again, Thanks!

Mike
