I have just gotten a new laptop with celeron processor. I was wondering if speed stepping was only for Pentium processors, or is it also used in celerons. I have WIN2K loaded, but could not find where it was. |

| AFAIK it's only on p3's. Celerons do not have this feature.
and only mobile p3's at that, some laptops use desktop processors.

Cool. Thanks, that is what I needed to know.
I wonder how laptops that use desktop processors deal with the heat.
Thanks again. |

p3's actually don't run very hot, so heat isn't too bad a problem, but they are usually louder due to either a higher powered fan, or multiple fans. plus the time the fan is powered on is longer.
At my work, we sell p4 laptops, with desktop p4 cpus, up to 2.2ghz, no heat problems at all. |

the main purpose for speed stepping is to save the battery consumption more than heat for longer usage on the road
on my 866 i just took speed stepping off since i have it plugged in all the time
