Dell Latitude C840 Display too small

I have a C840 I had to completely restore windows on. The screen was a small box when I started, but after several windows updates it filled the entire LCD screen again.

The problem is that the screen resolution is very very tiny. When I use control panel/display to adjust the resolution, it just kicks it back to the small screen (actually it flickers when I try to apply new settings but the size never actually increases)

Dell has a driver I tried installing it, but it has a two part installation with a download to floppy necessary for the bios. I don't have a floppy, but I could go buy one I suppose if this is what's gonna solve the problem.

Anyway, your help is greatly appreciated!!! Below is the dell page with the driver I was talking about. is there a way to use it w/out the floppy?

You should only need the video driver after you format. So don't worry about the BIOS. Just update the driver and you should be set

By the way, Welcome to TechIMO!

FN & F7 BOTH @ THE SAME TIME WILL FIX Your RESOLUTION

The FN & F7 BOTH @ THE SAME TIME WILL FIX Your RESOLUTION PROBLEM!
i'M Sure it will work on the Lat C-840 & Inspiron 8200 and it may work for other Dells as well!

It toggles between compressed & uncompressed Resolution modes?
Why it is needed? I dont know ask the Dell Gods in India!

Thank God for search engines or I still be pulling my hair out!

Thanks

I just had to reinstall XP home edition on a friend's laptop and couldn't figure out what was going on with the display. It was about 1/4 of the size it should be, centered right in the middle of the screen. Thought for sure it was a driver I needed to download. FN & F7 worked! Thanks so much!!!!
