| How does your laptop stack up to your PC?
Mine has the same cpu as my desktop. 1.0 ghz Duron. My desktop is O/C'd 20% and running at 133 FSB though, and the HDD is considerably faster. I love this laptop though. It's an HP, seems pretty quick.

One word: PATHETIC!
My company laptop is a Celeron 466 with a display so dim I can't view it when I'm outside at my van. My home PC is an AthlonXP 1600 that I built at the first of the year. I get so frustrated sometimes just waiting for my company laptop to just boot.

PIII - 850 Dell lappie for work
Very nice, got it running at 1400x1028
Home... PIII 650@722 :/
And only 1024x768.. monitor is a bit out of date
Work owns the laptop or I wouldn't have it

Using a P3 650e Compaq (don't ask) notebook myself. Not bad, esp with its 15" active matrix display. I'll break down and order a mobile P3 1000e chip for an upgrade one of these days, but the current config surfices for my on-the-road needs right now. Not like I am editing video or playing 3D games while away from home anyway.
Home? I use an Athlon TB 1.2 @ 1.4 for most of my day-to-day work. Need to order a new h/s, so this box might actually run under 60C when o/c'ing to 1.5+.
Catch ya' later,
Robert Richmond

Hey Vass,
I only run 1024 x 768 (just a 17"). Don't think I would go larger anyways. This is my ideal res. |

Work: PIII 850 with 256M, but we did get the monitors changed out recently. 17" at 1600x1200 at 85hz. Of course, I do get to play with all the new toys before they hit production.
Home workstation: TB1G with 512 and mid level equipment. I don't really need anything faster, but will be building again soon anyway. |

School Laptop
IBM Thinkpad. Celeron 700Mhz (100FSB) w/128MB PC100 SDRAM, 14" screen. I upgraded everything I could, which consisted of upping the RAM to 192MB. 10GB SLOW harddrive (Over 90% full). It has 8MB shared with the video. The video is something called a Trident Cyberblade..I can almost play counterstrike at 512x384x16 D3D. 1024x768x32 Desktop res. It works well, just dont leave the desktop. some unmarked CD drive, guessing around 20x. PCMCIA Lan Card (Xircom 10/100 Realport that doesnt pick up sometimes so you need to eject it and shove it back in for it to pick it up)...Thats the only PCMCIA slot too. Some very bad sound card, and worse integrated speakers (sounds like 1 or 2 watts). Smudges all over the screen because all the dirt from the keyboard gets on the LCD. 2x USB ports. Wireless LAN at school is nice. Thats about all it has over my desktop. Oh and it can clone the LCD and an external output...my desktop cant do that I dont think. And its quiet
Home Desktop
Duron 933 (133FSB). 512MB SDRAM PC133 SDRAM. 19" Flat tube screen on a Geforce2 GTS. 17.4" LCD screen on a Matrox Millenium. (plan to upgrade both to a GF4 Ti w/ nView when I get a chance..and a paycheck). 120GB FAST Harddrive (75% full). Flat tube CRT maxes out at 1920x1440x32. LCD maxes out at 1280x1024x32. DVD drive, CDRW drive. A REAL PCI NIC. Acoustic Edge sound card with Klipsch 5.1's...500w. TV Tuner card for TV watchin. Screens are clean. Pretty loud compared to the laptop, but I can sleep with my head about a foot or 2 from the box. But I cant carry it around in my backpack . And its the most unwireless device youve ever seen...its got 16 wires sticking out of the back of it. About 12 of them actually have a purpose for something I use. |
