IDE Drives in an SATA enclosure through a SATA pcmcia card?

I found an external enclosure that uses IDE drives internally and gives you USB 2.0 or SATA to connect to your machine. It will cost me about double to go this route cause I'll have to buy a PCMCIA SATA card but basically it should work as well as an internal drive then right? Has anyone tried this set up yet? I need a temp solution as I'll be down to only my laptop. but if I got internal speeds then this would be wellll worth it in the end rather than throwing away money for a short temp solution.

it should work well if you use the SATA interface, though the bridge from IDE to SATA could potentially have poor performance. USB2.0 will not perform anywhere near an internal drive connection, but will work in a pinch.
