there both 144-pin SODIMM so they both should work fine. to be really sure i would go to compusa ask to see there books on memory type and they should have what you need listed

a computer with a p3 500 or a p3 650 should use the same memory.

That is what I thought as well. Hell I have been watching prices of m-p3 on ebay and have been thinking of stepping it up as well. Has anybody upgraded their cpu on there lappy. As far as I can tell by part numbers I should be able to go up to a p3 900. Does compaq solder there cpus on the mobo?

You could take it apart and find out the hard way! But I think I went to Compaq's support section one time and there's a place where you can ask questions such as this. There's an expert there who can answer you... I remember somebody else asking if they could upgrade their AMD powered laptop, and the answer was yes...

Hope that helps.

Not on the ones I've worked on. (Soldered question) They have a zif socket. Looks just like any other zif, only a smaller motherboard. It should be right in the middle under the keyboard.
