laptop batteries

I have a dell inspiron 600m. For the moment, they only make 6 cell batteries for it....I haven't been following laptops long enough to know how dell works. Will they usually release larger batteries after the fact or am i stuck with 6 cell batteries for the rest of this laptops days?

Battery technology is constantly advancing so you should expect incremental improvements in capacity per cell.

The other possibility is if your battery casing has room for more batteries then it may be possible to buy or (re)build a battery pack with more cells.
