| Sony support is messed up!
Dang,
Installed W2K on my Sony Vaio. Before I did, I looked on Sony's website for W2K drivers and found none. I then called Sony's Tech Support. After about 15 minutes on hold, they told me that they only had support for the latest OS, which happens to be XP. Does that make sense??!!
Oh well, the driver I needed was for the ATI Rage Mobility M-1 chipset, but since Sony and ATI don't have the drivers for W2K, I'm using a driver that was meant for my old Fujitsu laptop which runs a similar chipset.
XP really burns my butt!!! |

IMO XP is esentially Win2k. Most of the drivers I use for my Win2k machine are called Win2k/XP drivers. IMO you would not have to worry about a thing if you used the XP drivers.
PS It was very wise of you to round up the drivers before you loaded the software. Most techies forget to do this and have to download them afterward and struggle getting them on the new machine.
Good luck,

You can try the XP drivers, but they are not guaranteed to work. XP in on the modified NT kernel, so the drivers are a bit different. Some may work, those defined as 2K/XP, but those just marked for XP have a good chance of not. XP's kernel has obviously been modified from 2K, even the memory leaks are back in XP |

Thanks for letting me vent. the reason why I loaded W2K back on my laptop is because, XP kept dropping my connectivity at work. Since putting W2K back on, hey, what do you know? No more problems.
BTW, I did try using the XP drivers for video, and it crashed the system.

Yes I Did. And got some heat for it too when I reported it--and reported it. Went on six months.
Basically my experience with SONY is that they lied in what Manual came with the Computer and then tried to blow me away.
And continued to do so even AFTER they were aware that their Computer took you to a LINK which had a NON-existant Reference Manual.
They continued to dish out that an Intel Chipset was in an AMD Duron machine which even I a newbiew know could not be so. So did Intel and Wall Street Journal which was surprised SONY was telling the public that an Intel 810 chipset could support a Duron.
Finally, they used a phoney "disclaimer clause" which only a Lawyer would have thought up--to "disclaim" any responsibility for keeping their word.
The Reference Manual for the PCV-J150 at the SONY site toaday is due to six months efforts on my part while disabled to get them to keep their word.
I would have sued them for Disability discrimination when I asked to be connected to their Equal Opportunity Coordinator and HQ connected me to Tech who said, "I don't want to hear no legal mumbo-jumbo". I had too many other problems at the time--but I will pursue that Disability issue soon.
