| Dell inspiron wont boot or do anything!
Hi there!
I hope you can help me!!!!
My Dell inspiron 8100 wont boot or do anything at all!!! When I try to turn it on, all the 3 lights come up for 5 seconds and then it turn off itself. It doesn´t make any noise at all... nothing start up.. not even the fans..
it´s connected to main and the battery is fully charged
any tip?

no.. I can´t get into the bios. it only turn the lights for 5 seconds and that´s it. the fan don´t even start at all..
no beeps either
could it be the BIOS battery?

~ I dont have and never have worked with a laptop, only PCs. ~
reset your bios if you're able to. Possibly just take out the jumpers if laptops have those. Check fan wires. Do you have any other batteries or AC adapters? try switching things out if you have some available to find the variable that is causing the disturbance. Do all this from a cold start... which u should have to since it wont start and stay on.
last but not least, smack that mofo. NOT THE SCREEN THOUGH.

any other tip around there? I´ll try to do what Snookay says.. but It going to take me some time to do it as I have to unscrew the whole laptop...
so.. if someone have any other tip in the meantime.. will be great

How old is the battery? Try removing the battery and using only AC power (may not be possible on certain laptops). |

I tried both options...and no luck...... teh laptop not even "try" to read the hard drive.. the screen doesn´t show anything at all... it´s always black!

If it is under warrenty, RMA it to Dell... Sounds like your Mobo is going out..

is not under warranty.. it is a bit old for that....
what happen if the bios battery runs completly out.. what is the effect of that?

There isn't a BIOS battery, there is a CMOS battery. I don't know too much about the inside of a laptop, but a CMOS battery could be in there.
If it was out, I think that the BIOS wouldn't boot up or wouldn't "remember" your settings. Best get that battery replaced if you have to.
