| Upgrading laptop RAM
Damn. I said I wasn't going to get into laptps, but here I am again attempting to service one for a client.
I have this Chembook L7200 in front of me. It uses PC100 RAM. There is only one piece accessable through a plastic cover on the back, it contains 1 x 32Mb. and the total RAM installed is 96Mb. From what I understand, the other 64Mb is inside the laptop. Can I upgrade the internal RAM if I opened the unit up? |

No, not a stupid question. The L7200 is made by Asus. Most of their notebooks put their other stick underneath the keyboard. There may be a couple screws holding down the keyboard underneath the system. After you undo those, flip it over and there should be about 3 clips holding down the keyboard. Look on the top edge of the keyboard and just push the clips in and the keyboard should pop off. |

Well, I've had it open before to change the CPU. I got it open now, but I don't see any RAM. I'm under the keyboard. Does this mean the onbaord RAM isn't user-upgradeable? |

Actually the L7200 is a very old laptop. I just did some background check on that one, it already comes with 32mb on the board, so you can't change it out. The max is 160mb total. So the 128mb stick is as high as you can go. |

Are you certain the onboeard is a 32? The back of the unit says: L7300/L7200. I'm looking at the exposed stick and it IS a 32Mb. The total installed RAM, (according to BIOS), is 96Mb.
I called it a L7200 because that's what I've used to lacate parts. |

Both the L7300 and L7200 have a 32 non-removable stick and are both maxed at 160mb. I wonder if it meant that it's 32 included and not "non-removable". Either way, it says that the max you can put is 160, so that's 32+128. I dont have it in front of me, but that's what that specs says. |

Well, at least I can choke XP on it. The client uses the unit for carrying small files to and from work and some very light games like cards.
Thanks for your help, LE! |
