my daughter has an IBM thinkpad. she knocked it against her dresser and now the screen is messed up. i will try my best to explain what it looks like.
vertical multicolored lines runs top to bottom of whole screen
looks like tears in screen (like someone took a knife to it)
colors look to be running (when you move the laptop it looks like water moving around.)
is there anything i can do to fix this or is it totally messed up for life? lol
if it can be fixed how do i go about fixing it?
can it be replaced? (not under warranty anymore).

Ya, it probably can be fixed...but is it worth it? Usually LCD screen replacements for laptops cost almost as much as a brand new one...atleast, that is what I have seen...
You will have to check out the IBM website, and see what they have...of buy an identical laptop off ebay or something, and swap them... |

I would guess the screen is ruined. You might price a new screen for it but might be more than it is worth. What model and speed is it?

Hmm it really depends on how much it costs and whether you would rather put the money towards a newer laptop. When my mobo died on my Dell it cost $500 to get it replaced. That's their standard price for motherboard and LCD repairs, and most companies charge an arm and a leg to get either fixed. If you need a working computer ASAP and don't have the money to get a decent new one, you might have to suck it up and pay for it (which is what happened to me.) Like EXreaction said, check IBM's website and look on ebay for your model or similar models. Good luck.

she will just have to save up for a new one. i don't see the purpose of spending 300.00 or more for a screen when u can put some more to it and get something else. |

Yup display panel by itself is about 300-400 bucks and about 75 to 100+ for the install. This happened to my old HP, I bought a panel off eBay for about $180 & installed it myself. |
