| laptop broadband connection
My desktop PC is connected to broadband and my daughter would like to connect her ADVENT 7056 laptop to broadband but the manual says NO (Broadband too powerful for the modem). Does anyone know if there is a way around this? |

ive never heard of broadband being too powerful. If you are plugging the broadband into a network card on the laptop you should be fine. and if you do not have a network card on it or you cannot get it to work, then you can always get a PCMCIA network card and go at it from there. |

If it is a modem, like you said, you can't plug in broadband, you need a network card like L.I. said.

Your daughter's ADVENT 7056 does have a built-in Lan cable and could connect to the router using a network cable (cat5)... that is if you have a router. It's got a wireless network card that can connect to a wireless network also... that is, if you've got one. |

Technically there is no such thing as a broadband modum. It is a Broadband Gateway.
Modems are only used for dial up. |

I know the world calls them that, but that dosen't make it so. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...q=define:modem
This a tech sight, we should deal in facts.

Are you helping anyone with is "knowledge"? Are you helping the poster with the problem? Are we going to find you popping in correcting everyone whenever someone mentions the word memory, modem, gateway, switch, hub, screen, monitor, gamepad, etc. ? There can be many debates on the word "memory" alone or even "PC Card". I think we all know what one is talking about when it comes to the word modem or router. I think we all know what one is talking about when they say "pointer", "arrow", or "mouse thingy"? |

Apparently I'm not helping you, but someone that wants to know the differance between a modem and a gateway might be interested, like the poster who seem to be trying to plug broadband into a modem. Oh, I mean thingy
It sounds like he was refering to the modum in his computer, that can't be a broadband thingy, at least I don't thinky

| Anyways... The Lan port and modem port is right next to each other on the ADVENT 7056. He'll need to plug a network cable into the LAN port. I think we've already covered it all until the original poster replies. We dont know if he's got a router or not. |
