Laptop Won't Boot

I have an Averatec laptop with Windows XP (Home) and it usually runs fine. But recently whenever I turn it on, Windows doesn't load. It stays at a black screen. It's kinda like it just stops thinking. And whenever I push the button to turn it off, it makes like a "dink" sound. Kinda like when you click off a table lamp. I've never heard it do that before. Does anybody know what might be wrong?

Can you do a complete restore on it?

Before you try to restore it. Try to get into safemode, and checkout device manager. Also do you have a boot floppy or cd?

Can you get into the system BIOS? Does the hard drive show up in there? It sounds like your drive may have failed.

I don't have a boot floppy or CD. I can't even access the Safemode, because Windows won't even load. But I can get into the system BIOS. I believe that the hard drive shows up there. Is there anything I can do?

Sounds like the motherboard may be fried. Do you still have a warranty on it? It sounds like you might have to get it replaced.

Although I find it strange that you can get into the system BIOS. When my motherboard died the computer started to load and then just stayed a blank screen, with the fans still going.

yup soemthing mobo related. Sorry to hear that too cuz i like that brand of laptop.
