Can't get OS on laptop - Tech Support Forums

i have a crappy gateway 2000 solo 2100 that has no OS and it has a swap drive(floppy or cd-rom one at a time) and so how can i get win98 on it...ive tried coping all the files on a boot diskette to the hardrive but that dosent work =(

You can try setting the CD drive as the first bootable. Although, some of the earlier versions of Win98 came with a bootable floppy, they were also CD bootable. It's worth a try.

Hmmm IDK i have to insert a linux cd then restart it for it to even wana try to boot off a CD lol.....

You could put in the floppy drive and install DOS 6.22 onto the hard drive then boot up from the hard drive and install Win98 off of the CD that way.

You can get DOS 6.22 from a couple different websites.

I'm not sure if it's against forum rules to post them since I think DOS 6 is classed as abandoned but just to be safe I won't post them here.
