Laptop runs hot..... cooling solutions?

I have a laptop with a AMD athlon xp2800+ and she tends to run hot even with decent ventilation. I can't even sit it on my lap for more than 10-15 or it gets so hot that it burns my skin. I've seen a few cooling systems and cooling pads available. What do you guys use or reccomend?

Well the lap isn't the problem, its that she gets so hot in half an hour that she'll crash and shut off. sorry forgot to add that part!
