| Dell c840 diplay too small
I formatted my drive and installed Windows XP on my Dell c840.After I intalled the Geforce driver for the video card the screen resolution became very small.I tried to decrease the resolution setting and the images of the desktop styed the same but the screen size got smaller.I tried another video card from a fried and it did the same thing.Any input on this problem would be greatly appreciated. |

You most likely have to either increase the resolution rather than decrease and/or drop the refresh rate some |

If I disable the video driver the resolution can be adjusted again, but the quality of the immage is decreased, and the refresh rate is slower. If I enable the video driver again the resolution sets itself to 640x480 and the color is at LOW(8bit).If I apply any settings to the display the screen goes tiny again. If I set the resolution to 1600x1200(at any color setting),the screen fills the monitor, but all the desktop is still tiny.If I set the resolution at 640x480,the screen becomes smaller, but the desktop is the same size, but the items are just closer together and rest of the monitor is blacked out. Ther is not any adjustment buttons for the screen on this laptop, only brightness and contrast. Thanks for the sugestions. |

If you set the screen resolution to 640x480 (which I don't recommend), I believe your Latitude has a hot-key combination to adjust the screen. Pressing the <Fn>and <F7> keys together will toggle between Expanded and Compressed modes.
My recommendation is to set the resolution to the native resolution of the LCD display, then auto-adjust the desktop items (taskbar, icons, etc.). If you installed the NVidia drivers, you should have more display options. You might want to use the Dell drivers, which can be downloaded here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&os=WW1&osl=EN |

| THANKS the FN & F7 KEY FIX THE PROBLEM!
The FN & F7 BOTH @ THE SAME TIME WILL FIX Your RESOLUTION PROBLEM!
i'M Sure it will work on the Lat C-840 & Inspiron 8200 and it may work for other Dells as well!
It toggles between compressed & uncompressed Resolution modes?
Why it is needed? I dont know ask the Dell Gods in India!
Thank God for search engines or I still be pulling my hair out!

One more quick note. If you want your screen to boot to the right size always, go to device manager / monitors , choose update driver on the "default monitor" go to "do not search for a driver / pick from list"
choose "plug and play monitor" . Now you should have just 2 monitors and they both say "plug and play monitor" . Now when you reboot, your DELL splash screen will appear small, but when windows boots, the display will stay big. PS if you have more than 1 "default monitor" in device manager remove / delete them. You should have just 2 "plug and play monitors" |
