Best to wait for Merom?

Would it be wise to wait for laptops w/ Merom chips and Vista on it? Friend wants a laptop since he's gonna be at an Air Force base and he doesn't have a laptop or anything right now? So I was wondering if Merom would be worth the wait.

I have tried MS Vista Beta version.
The interface is good, but most of the drivers don't match with the current software and hardware. A lot of improvement, or patches if you would say, need to be updated. I believe most game will not work on it.

It's probably the same with when XP Pro just comes in public, need update in service pack and patches. I wouldn't suggest waiting for Vista to come out.

What will your friend the chip (laptop) for? Usually, people demand higher speed and that's for gaming. If it's only to access common software and internet, the current kind of laptop (in the market) will do.

Also because the chip is the latest and newest, it will cost quite expensive. If you are willing to spend, I guess, why not.
Will your present be on time? Gonna have to wait till christmas, and that's if there is no problem in the chip or marketing or others
Merom Chips will probably be out in Christmas this year

News about Vista will be out in year 2007, but what month ?
