With a day, I'd be ordering my very first Apple, the new MBP Core 2 Duo. I have a couple of questions:
1) They are going to charge me £400 to upgrade it from a 2GB to 3GB RAM, the sales guy said it was a rip off, how much could I get the 1GB Module for seperately (In GBP £)
2) Matte or Glossy screen? I has some problems with graphics I created in the past on my glossy screen. The colours appear different, and I dont like fact I have to be in a low-light place to view the screen properly.
3) Do they make the MBP's in black?
4) Apart from Office, is there any other software I should be investing in, considering I am a first time Apple buyer?
5) Has the heat issue been corrected with this generation of Apple MBP's?

1.) Apple always overcharges for RAM. Dunno about British suppliers, but a 1GB stick goes for around $45 here. Depending on how it's set up though, it might require replacing an existing 1gb stick with a 2gb stick... I think those things only have 2 RAM slots. But even a 2GB stick is less than $200 here. (If that is the case, just save even more money and order it with a single 1gb stick if you can.)
2.) Depends what you like, look at both of 'em in person. The glossy screen is brighter and has crisper colors, but glare is a *huge* consideration.
3.) Nope. You can have any color you like as long as it's aluminium.
4.) Toast Titanium. CD/DVD burning program. Essential if you're ever going to burn a disc of anything other than iTunes music. Pretty much anything else you'll need is available for free.
5.) Dunno bout that, I'll defer to someone who's kept up to date. |

I dont mind waiting, I have exams coming up during this time anyway, so I dont think Id be using the laptop on its arrival.
I have a budget of about £1,500 - what kind of prices are these new models going to to cost? |

With any new release of a chipset, monitor, you are going to be pretty much be the test dummies on issues coming from the laptops.
I'm not saying apple hasn't fully tested this, however apple cant plan for everything
Im jealous with the Santa Rose, but so far my mac book has been keeping up with everything |

You bought one, I thought you were going to wait for the chipset?
I really can't wait for another 6 months until they start identifying problems, if the problem is major, they would probably be happy to replace problem parts anyway, hopefully. |

I was hoping Santa Rose would be out for the mb, but it didn't come out. I bought the latest mb released (about a month ago) and pleased with it so far. |
