IBM Thinkpad R40 problems...

Hi,

Does anyone know if a faulty laptop battery would cause the thermal fuse in the power supply to keep tripping ..?

The R40 battery holds zero charge but when removed the laptop wont always boot ..

I've done all the usual checks for overheating, unseated hdd, faulty ram etc. and have run the diagnostics on everything I could but with no success finding a problem..

It's driving me nuts...

I know it's a (c)old thread on a rather quiet forum, and I do nog even know the answer on your question, BUT, your question seems to suggest, that you know the answer on the exact location of the fuse on my Thinkpad R40E. Please let me share that info.

I have an ibm ThinkPad r40 laptop. When I turn it on, sometimes it beeps 3 times (one long, two short) and the screen remains blank. Other times, when I turn it on, the ibm screen comes on, but it starts to flicker and then lines start to appears on the screen and it goes blank. What is wrong with my laptop? Is it something that I can fix or will I have to get it repaired?
