Alrighty,
So basically my parents are giving me a choice. I can stay on their phone plan for the next two years, and pay my bill, and I'll get a portion of the plan.
Next I can get off their plan, but start a new plan with rogers, therefore not having to pay to cancel the contract (as to what the guy said).
Last option being I totally wipe rogers, pay 200$ to cancel, and go with a diff provider, like FIDO most likely (bell overexpensive, telus bad experience)
Oh and BTW I'm in Canada so we dont got Verizon or AT&T :P.
Next thing is I want to buy a new cell phone, most likely unlocked, hence the GSM provider. I'd like some opinions from you guys, but for my liking, I'd like it to be able to have MP3 capabilities and upgradeable memory. It has to be flip, swivel, or slider, no candybar for me. The Sony's really interest me especially this S500i phone :P.
Anyways your opinion on both will be greatly appreciated, thanks |

Are you having problems with Rogers service levels? If not, see about just getting a new phone and switching to a plan on your own. See what the Rogers rep has to say about that. $200 is $200 and I'd rather use it on myself then pay it for something that I won't be able to use.
I would definitely recommend Fido or Rogers as providers. They both use the Rogers Wireless network which I've found to be so much better for reception and signal quality and strength then the others.
Telus, Bell, Solo, Virgin Mobile, etc all use Bell Canada's wireless network which, for me, has crappy service where I work (in the middle of a large city) and at home, in the middle of an even larger city.
Phone-wise, how much do you want to spend? At the Rogers store where I just got my new phone, they have a sale where you can get several different low-end to high mid-level models for $129 on a 1 year plan, $50 on a 2 year and zero on a 3 year plan.
I got the Nokia 6085 flip phone. It has MP3, a camera, can take a 2GB microSD memory card, a 256K colour screen, works with the Nokia PC software so you can easily upload stuff to the phone. I'm still finding nice features in it myself. Overall so far I love the phone and I like Rogers much better than Telus.
That's my 2 cents anyway.
