| First Gaming Laptop Suggestions?
Well I haven't had the need for a laptop and I built my home pc and just used that but nowadays with college coming up I figured I should get one. My problem with it is that I have outdated info as far as pc parts go and the laptop field is even more distant lol. I figure I'll do some gaming on it since I've had my home pc for quite a while and I should update it but instead I'll just put that money into a laptop. I don't have a set budget but I would like to say around 1300 tops. I would like to use windows xp though and I have a copy of it already but I'm weary about the drivers from major company built laptops working with xp if they're made for vista.
My home pc specs:
19"crt
amd 64 3000+
512mb ddr 400 ram
gigabyte k8ns pro mobo
gigabyte 6800 softmodded to 16pipelines and extra shader
80gig seagate 7200rpm
external my book 250gb
windows xp pro
I looked a little at newegg which I trust and this is the one I saw that would be the best. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220167 |

You could always look for one with the newer 8700m gt series in it. Apparently it compares to the 7950 ^^. |

The 8700m is on par with the 7950gtx but the 7950gtx benchmarks prove that the 8700m is about 25-34 percent weaker then the 7950gtx, the 7950gtx is still king...for now.
Anyways look at the Sager NP5790 or Sager NP9260. The NP9260 is the best laptop in the world...period. Up to 3 hard drives in RAID, SLI video cards, supports 800 mhz RAM (up to 4 gigs of RAM), Core 2 Duo Extreme, a mobile quad-core is in the making for the 5790 and 9260, and MXM-IV for future video card upgrades, most likely it will support the 8800m when it comes out.
I recommend these resellers:
xoticpc.com
powernotebooks.com
If you live in Canada/US
eurocom.com |

thanks for the responses, those suggestions all look good and I've got my eye on this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220163
Is there a benchmark somewhere that compares the 8600 vs the 7600 though? I'm curious whether the extra screen size is worth it or not. |

If it were me, I would try to get the 8600GT graphics chip. It is better then the GS. Not that much more in price either..
Just my two cents though... |

I don't know if i'm mis-reading but I'm seeing the cheapest 8600 gt starting at close to $1800 vs. $1300...I don't know... |

Looking at this thread made me realize, some of the laptops I've been looking at have these cards. So here ya go. http://powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=471
$1000 base price...Dono what your specs would make it rise up to, but probably not too high. |
