| Compaq nx6110 memory upgrade .?
Hey everyone... picked myself up an HP Compaq nx6110 lappy...
Windows Xp Home , 1.4 celly , 40gig hd , but only 256mb ram (ddr333) ..
it can be upgraded to 2 gb of ram.. my only question... how do you upgrade your ram in a lappy ... LOL ... DESKTOPS .. easy... lappys...
just wondering if anyone has any comments on how to tear into a laptop to get to the memory. Also, how much is memory for Laptops.... i will do some research... but would like some feedback from you guys as well...
thanks in advance !!

Notebook memory can typically be accessed from a panel on the bottom of the notebook. Oftentimes just a single screw, then lift out the small panel.
As for pricing, SO-DIMM DDR memory is no longer price competitive since DDR2 has become the industry standard.
To give you an idea of your options, you can use CPU-Z to determine how many memory sticks are already installed - hopefully just one. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Next, you can use Crucial's memory advisor to determine your options. http://www.crucial.com/
Buy there, or shop elsewhere. Newegg usuallly following the "norm" for memory pricing. Finding deals on new SO-DIMM DDR will likely prove limited as best.

hmmm... ok.. i might take a look then... thank goodness i don't have to take apart the whole laptop !! lol... is crucial the only way to go with memory...? and i am taking it that SO-DIMM DDR333 is going to be hard to find new... but i hope i can find it "used" ... easier... |

You should be able to use most any PC-2700 or above module when looking for standard 200-pin SO-DIMM DDR notebook memory, barring any chipset limitations. I linked Crucial since it has a memory advisor tool for specific models. You can buy the memory elsewhere if desired. |

thanks Rob... yeah.. it's not much of a gaming lappy LOL.. or any type of multimedia .. but it is plenty fast for surfing the web etc.. actually it's quicker then i would imagine for it's specs... very odd... but it blazes through web pages and videos etc.. without any problems.. running applications etc... even at only 256mb of mem... so an upgrade to at least 512 or 1 meg would be a huge improvement ! |
