Anybody familiar with the older Jornada models that looked like a small laptop that had been sliced in in half widthwise to make a short n wide key-board, plus screen, clamshell ?
They used MS Pocket Office on a Windows for hand-helds OS or a CE OS==not Palm OS. Refurbs may be gotten for $200 -$250. Less than a lb.
The ASUS is also shrunk down and uses flash memory for a "hard-drive". and a custom-for-asus Xandros OS. Cost aropund $350 to $400, depending on whether it has a builtin low-rez (like cell-phone) camara. About 2 lbs.

PS. I am considering a Jornada for ultaportable cafe-internet use. Plus active synch to Computer.

I've been looking at the Eee PC from Asus, after considering a small Fujitsu; the price and portability is definately attractive.
the lack of "computing power" really isn't an issue in this case for me; I have a Mini-ITX EPIA-V 800mhz machine and it's perfectly capable at word processing, internet, multimedia, and streaming audio/video.
I've been looking for a wifi appliance for a while now, but budget constraints have all but limited my options to an XP-bundled piece of garbage from HP.
I'm not familiar with the Jornada (and I insist I'm not spamming this thread) but my vote definately goes for the Eee!

It is partly the MS PC for Handhelds 200 that is worrying me.
Also, the HP Jornada 728 --that looks like a mini laptop with a 76% of normal-size keyboard, was recently sold for about $200.
I figure I would wait for the 8Gb Asus Eee to come out. I figure the rumors of a 10" screen are not true, at least for now as ASUS must want to get as many to market as quickly as it can.
But the edition after tha, might have a 10" screen, so i figured I'd wait before plunking down $400.
