Question
Improving laptop performance

I've got a Toshiba laptop with the following specs:
Celeron 800Mhz
128 SDRAM
15 Gig HD
Win XP

I'm looking for tweaks and tip to make this thing move a little faster, After being on my desktop it seems like a slug. Could just be the Celeron though, every PC I've used that had a Celeron has been a slug.

All I've done so far is modify start up group and services, set a static pagefile, and turned off the eyecandy.

Thanks,
Darrell

maybe some of these tweaks will help.

also what do you have running in the background? might want to up the ram if you can because the NT kernel will take any amount of memory you throw at it. i believe ms reccomends at least 256 megs. And from the way xp runs sometimes i can believe it.

I agree with GZ3 ... you will need 256MB of RAM and you will really see an improvment in real life use ... you have a very nice machine, just add an 128MB stick of RAM and you will tell the difference for sure ...

Actually, I just checked Pricewatch and it's listing 256MB modules for Toshiba laptops at $53 plus shipping. I would check out Toshiba's Tech Site and see what that maxes out at - more is better.

Thanks for the replies, more RAM should make a noticeable difference since turning off the themes made the only real diiference. I hadn't checked on RAM pricing for it, but $53.00 is alot less than I expected.
