So just as the title said that one of my friends is now on the market for a quite solid and inexpensive ( at most $1100) laptop, we had found two very good choices, but just can't decide which one should be more worthy: HP DV9700t Laptop: Core 2 Duo 2.20GHz 2GB 250GB $1000 Sony VAIO VGN-CR220E/R Intel Core2 Duo 2.0GHz 2GB 200GB $1050
I like the HP is better, but she said she'd like a small one for the convenience. So what do you think of them, or do you have other better choices. BTW she is not a heavy gamer, but she need fast speed.
And if you have any unpleasant experience with any of them please tell us thank very much.

I always found Sony products to be incredibly overpriced. Component-wise the HP is definitely better.

I wouldn't go near either. Build yourself a Dell Vostro and it will be cheaper, faster, and fit to what you want.
I'd hate to have a 17" laptop, 15.4" is plenty big enough for a desktop replacement (provided the screen has a good resolution), and 15.4" is getting to be almost too big to be mobile.

For the same price as a Sony, you could get much better quality in a Thinkpad.
And for the same price as HP, you'll definitely get more bang for your buck with a Dell Vostro notebook. |

Dell is liquadating their entire inventory of Vostro and Latitude laptops to get ready for the new models. You can get a rediculous deal on either one right now so neither of those are worth it.
Sony has notoriously made some over priced products because they include sony memory stick readers and maybe built in blue tooth. I would never recommend a Sony unless your a business traveler and you can afford to spend closer to 2k or more.
Now something to consider, and you sort of mentioned this, is what exactly you are going to be doing with this laptop. If your looking to replace a desktop that is used for work then maybe the HP would be a better choice as its going to spend most of its lifespan on a desk. The mobility becomes much more of a question far more complex as some people want a smaller lighter laptop because they carry it and some want something they can work with on the plane, train, or bus without needing to use two seats. Have you looked at the battery life of both of them? Are you sure that your going to be able to do what you want on a single charge of the battery without needing to find a charger? Is this for a college student and you need something that will travel well in a backpack/satchel with limited protection or worry about shattering the screen with a book in your bag?
Anyone can pick their favorite of the two since they aint buying it but you really need to have your friend think about the two and what exactly works between the two to fit their personal needs and expectations. |
