| Acer Aspire turns off suddenly
Yes, I had that problem also. It seemed to do so while converting video files from one format to another. I believe it was getting kind of hot also.
Fortunately I was still under warranty; sent it back to Acer and they fixed it all up, no problems since. Unfortunately for those out of warranty, I believe they replaced the CPU, but I could be wrong. Lost the paperwork, sorry. |

No problem with the CPU .. I already clean and made some stress tests... and the temperature are 40ºC for CPU and 35º for GPU ... so its perfect...
Sometimes I get 1 Long Beep and 2 Short from BIOS... its a graphic memory problem
and sometimes the BIOS just reset the clock... |

| I have the same strange Problem with my Aspire 5610
I tried quite a lot to fix the problem, but finally I consider buying a new notebook - certainly not an acer.
It looks like an overheating problem.
It not a dust problem, I have checked.
I suspected it to be the thermal contact between the CPU or the northbridge and the heatpipe. However, after trying thermal grease and liquid metal foil the problem still remains.
Interestingly my notebook sometimes runs for days without freezing until I do a reboot. Then it usually freezes after a few minutes (typically if the CPU-load is moderately higher - e.g. when loading a compex web page). After a few subsequent freezes and reboots (typically 4 to 5 times) its running relatively stable again.
I have checked the memory, replaced the harddisk and I did reinstall windows from the beginning - this all didn't work.
The temperature of the CPU is not too high, typically around 45 to 55 degree C. The CPU temperature shouldn be the problem.
Another thing: When freenzing the fan starts blowing at full load.
Has anyone found a solution for this obviously quite common problem? |

| Shutdown due to overheating problem solved on Acer 4620z
Hi all,
I also was having a problem with my Acer 4620z shutting down due to overheating even while relatively idle. Initially, I verified that the cooling fan was spinning and that air was flowing out of the rear right vent, so I assumed that it could not be a basic airflow issue. Also, I removed the bottom panel that allows access to the fan, CPU, memory, HD, and network card, and did a visual inspection for dust and did not see any problems, but even after reimaging the machine to the factory OS, the thermal shutdowns continued if using the machine for more than 30 minutes or so. I was convinced that the problem was some kind of serious motherboard/CPU malfunction.
It turns out that the problem was a dust/airflow issue after all, just not one that was visible on casual inspection. On the advice of a friend, I removed the access panel again, and this time removed the fan. It's held in by two screws, and I had to gently peel back a thick foil tab to free the fan. Between the fan and the right rear vent is a row of tiny metal fins that serves as a radiator to facilitate the transfer of heat. I used compressed air to blow from the outside of the machine into the right rear vent, and several densely packed dust bunnies popped out. It's important to blow the air from the outside of the machine in; I think the other way would just pack the dust against the vent even more.
After reassembling the machine, it runs much cooler. It used to get uncomfortably hot to the touch; now it's just warm. Though some air was making through the clogged vent before, the flow is much greater now. I've run the Intel thermal analysis tool to peg the processor at 100% for more than an hour, and the machine runs great. The CPU warms up into the low 80s, but cools right down when I stop the tool, and the laptop just gets warm (well within normal parameters).
I didn't think a little dust could make such a difference, but it's night and day. I didn't have the problem for the first 14 months or so that I had the machine. I guess that's how much time it takes for the dust clogging to reach critical mass.
I'm sure some of the problems others are having are not due to airflow, but it definitely was the cause for my 4620z. Hope this helps others. |

| Acer Aspire left hand mouse button dead
Apart from all the other problems that my ACER 5612 has, the left hand 'mouse' button has sunk so low that it now fails to work.
I've tried dismantling the machine from the underside but couldn't get to the button.
Is there a way to access it from the top?
BTW, I solved the power-down problem by using a cooling pad.
Boy, these ACER laptops are such rubbish. I was warned by friends not to by ACER but the store convinced me (the owner bought one for his daughter story....)
Can anyone give me dismantling advice?
Thanks
Jonny
