| Acer Aspire 5610 turns off suddenly
so today i'm sittin in class, playin solitaire and takin notes, when i adjust my screen a little and the computer just goes dead.
i hit the power button and everything comes up fine, vista loads, get back to solitaire, then as i'm typing, it turns off again.
so now whenever i move my computer at all, it turns off. moving the screen sometimes does it, sometimes typing does, sometimes moving the whole computer does.
it sounds like an electrical short somewhere, any ideas? i took the memory, cpu, and hdd covers off but didn't see anything out of place at first glace....

Was it plugged into an outlet? If so, does the power connector feel lose? |

Still have the warranty? It may an internal problem of some sort.
I would check the memory and hard drive. Providing the computer will stay on long enough. http://www.memtest.org/ http://www.hdtune.com/ If it is electrical your the tests may be negated by the electrical problem. I.E. false readings.
There isn't any hardware attached? Express, PCMCIA cards and the like? |

If the memory and hard drive tested alright then it is obviously an internal problem. Could be a lose connection with the screen. Who knows. You most likely need it serviced. If I had the laptop, just for the heck of it would try another hard drive I doubt that is the cause though. If you have the laptop serviced have them look at the inverter of the screen, etc.
You haven't plug an external monitor into it before?

| Same Problem with Acer 5630 -- here's what I know
Hi there,
I have an Acer 5630 with the same problem you are mentioning (except the game dvd in the drive...ha ha) and it is infuriating! I sent mine into Acer, they did an eRecovery and restored it back to factory default. When they shipped it home, someone forgot to use packing materials and it came home with a cracked screen and cracked case. I sent it back again and they replaced the screen (but didn't bother to fix the mashed corner of the case). Everything worked fine...for about a month. Now, I'm in the early stages of the same process I've been through before...it shuts down randomly, mainly when the processor gets loaded down, but I doubled my RAM and still have the problem. There are some hot spots on the case, but the problem happens when the case is cool sometimes too. I'm going to do some of the checks listed in the thread, but I forsee another trip to Acer Wreck Support. I'm trying to get a website done, so it's a race against the decay.
I'd like to just point something out. When I picked out this little beauty at Micro Center, I was waiting in line to pay when a cashier at the next stand starts telling his buddy what P.O.Ses ACERs are and how he wouldn't even use one for a doorstop! Do you think the Universe was speaking to me? My girl's Acer died in the Video Card about a month after the warranty ran out...wah-WAH.
:-( *sigh*
Maybe Acer needs a recall.... |

| mine turns off suddenly also
Started noticing this last week (after six month of no problems doing the same thing) while converting .avi video file to mp4. Gets about 80% through the process and the bottom fall out. I mean it just powers down, goes blank......
Ran the Windows Memory diagnostic (vista home premium) and it said there were memory problems, contact the manufacturer.
Rather not, thx. Any other ideas out there? |
