PROBLEM Slow Frame Rate in World of Warcraft

I downloaded HD2900 catalyst driver, uninstalled my previous display driver, ran the catalyst mod, installed the driver and rebooted. Resolution on reboot was not on, catalyst control panel not there and warcraft would not load stating the vga driver was no good. I went to control panel, device manager , display, automatically located and installed vga drivers and rebooted. On reboot graphic resolution seemed good, no catalyst control panel though, and in world of warcraft I had very high frame rates.

Windows says it wants to install a critical radeon x1700 update, but the update keeps failing, so I restore laptop to 10 hours previously.. On reboot still no catalyst control panel and now warcraft wont even update(looks like need to reinstall now.)

Any suggestions?
For a $1300.00 laptop I wish I could get my money back, my nephews wallmart laptop puts out better then this with driver support to boot.
Thats the last time I listen to strangers pointing me to wack drivers.

Yesterday I fixed this problem on my machine. For over a year it had been terrible in games. OS and other programs were fine, but even low-end games were terrible! CNC3 has been unplayable.

2 days ago I did a few things -

- Checked the BIOS, ensured DMA was active
- Cleared some things off D: (but had done this before)
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the sound card (had done this before)
- Uninstalled and reinstalled CCC with drivers (8.33 - the old ones)
- Ran a Battery configuration

I don't know precisely what caused the change, but it was great to see C&C in all its glory and actually be able to play a full level and a skirmish...

How would I find out the most recent config changes to determine what might have been the solution?
