The kind where the main machine is a
single-spindle 3- 4 lb. and you keep the "slice" or "slab" or I forget what they call those --not "port Replicators--but larger units that can contain the other two 'spindles. Plus, act like 'Port replicators' with VGA and speaker connectors etc.
One Spindle = Hard drive only;
Two spindle = HD + CD-ROM
Three spindle = HD + CD-ROM + Floppy AKA "desktop replacement"
The advantage is that you can take the mini-lappy (all 3-4 lbs.) to your local coffee shoppe and leave the Full panoply at Home.
Or if you take a trip, bring BOTH parts (fitted togetther) and take it from there.
I think that;s better than getting a single-spindle lappy and taking a bag of peripherals with you on a trip. Or carrying 7 - 10 lbs. to your local coffee shoppe. YUCCHO.
I was once looking at a Compaq Presario (302 ?) that worked that way. I left my 486dx2 WIN 95 lappy in CA and when I finally am able to travel, would like to get a two-piece "desktop Replacement-Into-Mini" as per above.
The alternative--I figure--is a two-spindle 5 lb lappy. I have a Dell-badged USB Iomega external ZIP that can run off power adapter (or I recall the battery boost from the serial (?) port ?) to use as a floppy.
Any recommendations ?
Voice of experience ?
DOOOOG
P.S. I'm not sure I like the 10" screens that come with some 3 lb. machines--so maybe a 12+inch 5 pounder with a slab ?
Yipes a 14" screen 4 lb.-er under two $grand$ would be ideal.
Yeah

I know about trade-offs.
