Laptop to DVD for music playing purposes

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me. I have tons music on my laptop and want to play it via my dvd player (which is linked to surround sound).

How do I do this? Is there a cable I need to purchase, and does this then plug into the back of the DVD Player?

Laptop is an HP compaq. DVD player is wired into surround sound, and via scart lead to the cable tv box (to enable tv viewing in surround sound)

I am totally clueless and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

K.

Hi, KB:

Welcome to TechIMO.

A few things to consider:
1. Getting sound out of the laptop is easy. Just use the headphone plug. But getting surround sound out of a laptop is not possible with the typical stereo output, unless your laptop features some other sound output connection.

2. You need to explain what component is driving your surround sound (hint, it's probably not your DVD player). If it's a receiver or amp, then there should be an aux sound input into which you would connect the sound from the laptop.
