| Thinkpad T61 config/compatibility issues
I'm configuring a Lenovo T61 14.1" laptop for myself, I'm going through the config process and from the reviews I have read I should opt for the 6 cell battery over the standard (flush) 4 cell for a mere $15 more. Another thing (rather new to me) that I was considering going with is the Intel TurboMemory Hard drive cache, which is 1GB of flash memory to help cache frequently used things in windows. Which from what I read increases battery life and load time. Its only $40 so I decided to go back and add it, but it says that is is uncompatible when configuring the system with the WWAN antenna, which is something I added because I may be able to talk my work into paying for the plan down the line ... the two (IMO) should have no bearing on each other, anyone know why?? Has anyone here had experience with similar 1GB flash memory modules and is there any noticable improvement?
The price is awesome for the configuration (see below, approx $1200 not including a 10% coupon code), I'll order 4GB of memory or a 2GB stick to accompany the 1GB in the system from NewEgg (DDR 667 PC5300) because its expensive to configure it with them. Should I stray away from this? Also can anyone shed some light upon 7200RPM HDD's over the typical 5400RPM drives... Its faster I assume, does it consume more battery? well im posting back because I chose the WWAN rather than the "TurboMemory" due to the fact the more I read the more I read that it only added benefit to Vista, which I will be dual booting and probably not using all that much of. Anyway I am now at the point where I want to purchase memory for the laptop since it is only coming with 1GB DIMM of PC-5300 and I want to have 3GB of memory in that machine. That way it will really be a nice system and also run decent if I decide to keep with Vista.
I was on NewEgg pricing out 2GB sticks and 2x2GB sticks, because I know my GF's computer could really use the other since she is running on a machine with 1GB of memory and Vista and it ...... yea it just..... it needs more RAM. If i go with the 2x2GB kits on NewEgg I see some with a CAS latency of 4 and most with a latency of 5. If I go with a 2x2GB kit can I break the two sticks apart in two different laptops fine or is that why they are together and labeled as dual channel?
Can anyone recommend either a 2GB stick or a kit of 2x2GB sticks (4GB total) of memory, I want my T61 to have 3GB including the 1GB stick it came with and also another laptop (Toshiba) which has 1GB to have 3GB as well. I am not married to NewEgg either so any other site links would be fine as well, I believe it will be a couple weeks before the laptop comes in anyway. |
